RAF Cranwell – Design, Supply and installation of new Pipe Works and Tanks

RAF Cranwell (ICAO: EGYD) is a Royal Air Force station in Lincolnshire, England, close to the village of Cranwell, near Sleaford. Among other functions, it is home to the Royal Air Force College (RAFC), which trains the RAF’s new officers and Aircrew.
Webber Engineering were contracted to supply and install the stainless-steel pipe works to the cylinders at RAF Cranwell. We developed the scheme alongside our Client and upon review it became apparent that no provisions had been made for how these mechanical services would be maintained in the future. Due to our past experiences and skill set, we developed an access and maintenance strategy that would allow the vessels to safely access for any maintenance works. Due to it’s unusual shape and large scale format, we had a number of design proposals developed that we unsuitable once we run our checks with the Structural Engineer. We then decided to adopt the tanks as a supporting part of our structure and worked our access stairs and platforms around this
